We are recognised by the Government under the Industry Training Act 1992 as the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for the plastics, glass container, paints & coatings and pharmaceutical and allied products manufacturing sectors.
Our aim is to ensure the skill development needs of our industries are met and that the views of employees within our industries are heard in relation to the development of skill standards.
Our role
As an ITO we have three main roles:
1. We set the skill standards, qualifications and vocational education pathways for our industries.
2. We arrange for the delivery of workplace learning and training for our industries.
3. We provide industry leadership by identifying skill needs, developing strategic training plans, and promoting learning that meets industry needs.
We do not deliver workplace learning and training ourselves – rather, we develop the system for learning for our sectors. The system for learning is based on the needs and requirements of both employers and employees. Our learning system incorporates both ‘on-the-job’ training in the workplace, and ‘off-the-job’ training at a tertiary education provider, such as an Institute of Technology, Polytechnic or Private Training Establishment (PTE).
We have a suite of training programmes that include National Certificates, National Diplomas, Apprenticeship programmes, Limited Credit programmes (mini-qualifications) and individual unit standards. These programmes cover skills and knowledge for a range of roles within our industries, whether it be for a technical role or a more general role such as administration, sales or management.
