CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

There are various methods of entry into a career in the industry sectors covered by the PaMPITO. However, the main ones within the manufacturing plant are:

Processing employees manufacture products, tend the various types of processing machinery, carry out various post production assembly and quality assurance operations, and pack products for despatch to customers. Subsequent employment for skilled processing employees can include more technical aspects of production such as setting up new product runs, and shift supervision. Processing employees who show the necessary aptitude can also move on into apprenticeships, or other career pathways. There is no specific educational pre-requisite for employment in processing, but in order to advance along the above lines employees need to have good literacy and mathematics skills. There are various National Certificates on the National Qualifications Framework available to processing employees.

Trades people maintain processing and associated machinery. They also service this machinery when a production run of one product ends and various changes are needed to commence that for another product. In addition they make and maintain the tooling used for making these products.

In order to make the business function correctly a wide range of other specialist roles such as administration, design, computing, sales, marketing, warehousing, and management are needed.
